SpEd and pre-school teacher

I just met a new friend she is a SpEd and pre-school teacher. She works an institution that teaches physically and mentally handicapped kids. I was surprised when I learned what her work was. There are few people who choose to do what she does. Helping what society considered useless. Investing her time and effort for kids has very little chance of succeeding by the world’s standard. But that what makes her work great! It is so counter cultural! In this generation where physical beauty and health is a premium, the handicapped are placed in the unwanted list. What struck me with her work was she reminded me of the parable of the Lost Sheep and the Lost Coin in the Bible. It shows Jesus’ uncalculating love for us. The Good Shepherd leaves the 99 to seek the 1 lost. He risks the 99 being stolen or eaten by wolves to find the lost sheep. He throws caution to the air. And the woman, who lost her coin, sweeps the whole house and gave a party after finding. If think about it, it is really kind of crazy to giving party to a coin, only people in the mental institution do that. Also think how impractical spending money to give a party for a single coin, the cost of the party is way more than the value of the coin! But that what my friends remind me, she chose to serve these people who will be normal. They won’t be engineers, doctors or lawyers. But still she chose to serve them. She told me that she teaches from 2 to 4 kids per class. Most of us will think of that as a waste of time. We modern people always think more is better, we focus more on quantity than quality. But that what makes her special. It takes a lot of dedication and selflessness to do what she does. She don’t calculate like the rest of us. Our world has become a cold world. We have become impersonal too each other. Many of us think God loves humanity but not us, which is contrary to the truth. People like her reminds us bit most of all reflects God’s personal love for each and one of us. That God does not calculate or look at us as an investment! That He is only good to those who he can use! God don’t need us to help him by the way, He chose that we help him. I hope more people be like my friend. She serves a light to our darken world. That there are still people who believe in personal love can change lives.
